Is Using AI Killing Your Sustainability Goals?

Let’s face it—AI is everywhere right now. You can’t scroll through LinkedIn or open a news app without being told how it’s going to change our lives, our jobs, and possibly the entire universe. And sure, some of that hype’s justified. AI’s got real potential—automation, better decision-making, streamlined processes. All good stuff.

But here’s something that’s been nagging at me lately: what’s it doing to our sustainability ambitions? I mean, in the world of procurement for example, we constantly talk about ESG goals, net zero targets, and green credentials and AI is often cited as a key part of the toolkit which will help us all become ultra efficient in our quest to get there.

But how often are we stopping to think about the environmental impact of AI itself?

Keith spoke to Sam Jenks on The Way We Source podcast in March 2025 about his background, route into procurement and opinions on the profession as a whole. Topics covered included:
